New Watercolor Release: "Morning Majesty" – An Elephant's Quiet World

There’s something almost sacred about the early morning light. It softens everything, casting the world in gold. In my newest watercolor painting, I wanted to explore that feeling—through the eyes of one of Earth’s most majestic creatures.

This piece is a close-up portrait of an African elephant, its features partially framed and cropped to draw you into its presence. The morning sun wraps around the folds of its weathered skin, casting long shadows and bringing warmth to the earthy grays. I painted this with the intention of intimacy—so that you, the viewer, are no longer standing at a distance, but face to face with this remarkable animal.

There’s a peaceful stillness in the elephant’s gaze. A quiet strength. As I painted, I imagined the dust of the savannah, the slow rhythm of its breath, the soft swish of its ears in the golden light. It’s easy to forget, in our busy lives, how vast and vulnerable their world really is.

African elephants are keystone species, meaning their presence is crucial to the ecosystems they inhabit. But despite their importance—and beauty—they face constant threats: habitat loss, poaching, and human-wildlife conflict continue to shrink their numbers. In recent decades, the African elephant population has dropped dramatically. Conservation groups are working tirelessly to protect them, but they need support and awareness to keep going.

This painting is, in part, my tribute to them. A quiet reminder of their dignity, their intelligence, and their place in the wild. I hope that when people see this piece, they don’t just see a painting of an elephant—they feel something. A connection. A moment of awe.
