Giraffe Original Oil Painting

This piece is part of a small series of black dry-brushed oil paintings where I wanted to do something a little different from my usual approach. Instead of relying on loose, energetic strokes, I wanted to slow down and really focus on detail, texture, and the subtle changes in the giraffe’s form.

At 22 x 30 inches, this is the largest dry-brush painting I’ve done, and also the most detailed. Working entirely in black, I had to rely on small changes in value and texture to bring the giraffe to life. It was a very different process for me—much slower and more deliberate—but I really enjoyed seeing how much could be done with such a limited approach.
